Höö

The road from Diö goes through a varying landscape with spruce forest, deciduous forest and open areas. Gradually, the field of vision extends against Möckeln, over whose surface is Höö increases about 30 m. At the highest point lies the old farm, surrounded by big elms and ash-trees. Here have people, since generations, saved an area of our forefathers landscapes. Since 1969 is Höö and several small islands nature reserve. The area amounts to 110 hectare.

The flora has been documented through scientific surveys and a maintenance plan has been established. The meadows on Höö covers 7 hectare. There has been lit almost 200 different plants. On a surface about 10 square metres you can find 50 different arts of plants.

On Höö you can find about 200 different plants.

The nature reserve Höö is allocated to preserve an area of the old farmer landscape, that within the area appeares with exceptional great natural beauty and to protect plants and animals. The east part of Höö is formed by green stone (hyperit-diabas, black granite). The slopes of the west and east high plateau is on many places form steep hillsides. Longer to the west the green stone element decrease in the morain. This change in the lands composition reflects itself in the plants distribution. In the earthbook of Gustav Vasa from 1553 Höö be treated as an independent agriculture. At this time it was called "Högen". The settlement story willed probably stretch many hundred years back. From 1559 the name Höö is typed. At the middle of 1900th-century the big part of the island became burn woodland and right until the center of 1920 its area is doubled big as in our days. The landscape that we meet on Höö is the results of a struggle for the bread feed. The farm owners has preserved the old forms for argiculture and with that nature and the picture of the landscape.

On Höö in the sea Möckeln exists a part of our forefather´s environment preserved. The visitors meets landscapes with a mosaic of arable lands, meadows, bait pastures and deciduous forest parties. The reservation covers 112 hector land, the rest is water.

The bedrock and the climate are important for the rich vegetation in the reservation. The cultivated landscape is however created of the farmer, since century back used the mark through agriculture, fieldreap and livestock bait. This management requires a lot of work and knowledge. With those requirements on profit and profitability that today applies within the agriculture, has therefore the old forms for articulture with for exemple extensive haymaking, disappeared on most directions. On Höö has however the family Hörberg held the old articulturetraditions alive. Since 1969, when the nature reservation was formed, they got economic compensation of the State to continue with it. This tradition is namely a condition in order to Höö will maintain its character.

On Höö has also the old landscapes system for the farmers for possession distribution been preserved. Fields and meadow exists within same area, pasture lands outside and forests further away from the farm.

The haymaking meadows are rich of flowers. There has been found almost 200 different plants. In the spring lots of Hepaticas, Primrose and Lily of the valley with their splendors. Then blossoms among other thing Wild Chicory, Viscaria vulgaris, Yarrow, Sweet woodruff and Centaurea jacea. On damp land, Meadowsweet enjoys and Heath Spotted-orchid. Haymaking happens first in juli - augusti when most plants had blommed out. Many of these has since old time been used as medical plants.

The haymaking-meadows was very important for the housekeeping in old times through that it gave winterfood to the animal. Until 1900th-century the haymaking-meadows was occipieding a bigger area than the arable land in our country. The meadows are not only valuable for their beauty and flora, they are also ancient monuments of very excellentliest kinds. In the pasture lands, the grasses are dominate and other species are few than in the haymaking-meadows. It depends on that many flowers do not tolerate the animals' tramping and grazing

Among hedge spirit birds, stone toffee exists, small flycatchers and sparrowhawks.

Höö offers rich possibilities to processions and nature experiences in an easy passable territory. Several indicated paths, of which some appropriate also for perambulators, runs through the reservation. The view from the island's height spine is very beautiful.
