Journeys 1772 on Linnés recommendations he was doing a journey to southern Africa, where he studied naturale- and social history. He joined with James Cooks other journey around the world and researched in Southern Ocean, Australia, Oceania and South america. Sparrman did lately yet another long travel. Along with an expe-dition, it looks for swedish colonizations area in west Africa.
Left documentation Iter in Chinam - Resa till Kina 1768. Sparrmans diaries were published on four different languages during his lifetime. Resa till Goda Hopps-Udden, södra Polkretsen och omkring Jordklotet, samt Till Hottentott- och Caffer-Landen Åren 1772-1776 (three different volumes). Extensive collections is preserved on Naturhistoriska and ethnographic museums in Stockholm.
Notable Despite an extensive academic career, among other things as a professor at Collegium medicinum in Stockholm, he died in misery 1820.
